This week, Stuart, the teams head coach was out of town on business. Despite the team missing Stuart’s leadership on the bench, they returned to their winning ways by defeating the Warriors 5-3.
We could not have asked for a better start to the game, with a goal in the first 30 seconds. Off the faceoff, Nicholas passed to C and then to Moses for his first goal of the game. Half way through the first half, Moses added a second to his tally by scoring an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
The second period of the game was once again characterised by our aggressive style of play and our usual lots of penalties. One of these penalties allowed the Warriors to score their first goal to make the score 2-1.
Soon after the Warrior goal, C restored out two goal differential with an assist from Nicholas. 3-1 Dbees.
The start of the third period saw the warriors once again score with a very controversial goal that was clearly kicked in to out net. Despite this call going against us, the team kept their focus and kept the pressure on the Warriors defence.
With all of the penalties we are currently receiving, we are getting a lot of practice with our penalty lines. During the game we had six penalty against us, of which 5 resulted in penalty kills and we also scored a short handed goal. Kristian passed to C on the right boards who then did a well timed cross ice pass to Nicholas, giving him an open run to the goal. This was Nicholas’s first goal of the game to make the score 4-2.
We also had a 3 on 5 penalty which lasted for 1:45. Moses, Kristian and Jack did a fabulous job in killing the penalty and preserve out goal advantage.
Deep in the third period, a Moses assist set up Nicholas for his second of the game giving us a 5-2 lead. The Warriors did manage to get a late consolation goal bringing the final score to 5-3.
Over all it was a solid performance by the team. Our passing game, that was missing against Now Tv, was back. Our defence also had a very solid performance, Memorable mention must go to Kristian and also to Max who is improving every week. Jack and Rex also held their ground with some great team work.
Lastly our goalie Julian, had some fantastic saves to keep us in the game. In particular with the score of 3-2, the Warriors had a break away. After a very good deke, and an open net, Julian came from nowhere to slide his pad in the way and prevent the Warriors from tying the game.
