THINKING GAME

25/11/2014

This week's game was against Now TV, the only team we have not been able to beat this season.

The game did not start as per plan, with one of their star player scoring in the second minute of the game in a power play. Lucky this did not unsettle the team and on the next face of Moses, after losing the face off, managed to win the puck back and single handedly broke down the middle and score the equiliser.

Straight away the momentum of the game swung our way with us scoring the next goal. C passed the puck back to the point where Kristian took a shot that deflected of for the goalie's catcher, to give us the lead and Kristian's first goal of the season. These two quick goals rattled them even further.  C took advantage of this and quickly made it 3-1by the end of the first period.

The second period started the same way the first one ended, with Gavin getting an assist from. Gordan to make it 4-1. Straight away Moses chased down a rebound to make 5-1. Now TV by now was getting very frustrated, especially when Julian or goalie stopped two breakaway attempts. All of this culminated with the top player of their team losing his temper and start punching one of our players. Despite being punched repeatedly, Nicholas showed a lot of self control by not retaliating to the attack. Well done for following the Dbees fair play policy.
The referee had no option but to eject Now TV's player. The second period finished with the score of 5-1.

With Now TV's weaker forward line our team continued to put pressure on their defence. Nicholas picked up two more goals to get his second hat trick of the season. The final goal of the match came compliments of C. C showed some real composure by holding the puck for what seamed an eternity. C waited for the goalie to make the first move.  When the goalie committed to the poke check, C calmly lifted the puck over the goalie to make the sore 8-1.

Over all it was a very solid performance by the team. The biggest improvement for the team was in their ability to think clearly on where to play the puck. You can see now player thinking on their skates and setting up some nice very nice plays.

This week, Stuart, the teams head coach was out of town on business. Despite the team missing Stuart’s leadership on the bench, they returned to their winning ways by defeating the Warriors 5-3.

We could not have asked for a better start to the game, with a goal in the first 30 seconds. Off the faceoff, Nicholas passed to C and then to Moses for his first goal of the game. Half way through the first half, Moses added a second to his tally by scoring an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.

The second period of the game was once again characterised by our aggressive style of play and our usual lots of penalties. One of these penalties allowed the Warriors to score their first goal to make the score 2-1.

Soon after the Warrior goal, C restored out two goal differential with an assist from Nicholas. 3-1 Dbees.

The start of the third period saw the warriors once again score with a very controversial goal that was clearly kicked in to out net. Despite this call going against us, the team kept their focus and kept the pressure on the Warriors defence.

With all of the penalties we are currently receiving, we are getting a lot of practice with our penalty lines. During the game we had six penalty against us, of which 5 resulted in penalty kills and we also scored a short handed goal. Kristian passed to C on the right boards who then did a well timed cross ice pass to Nicholas, giving him an open run to the goal. This was Nicholas’s first goal of the game to make the score 4-2.
We also had a 3 on 5 penalty which lasted for 1:45. Moses, Kristian and Jack did a fabulous job in killing the penalty and preserve out goal advantage.

Deep in the third period, a Moses assist set up Nicholas for his second of the game giving us a 5-2 lead. The Warriors did manage to get a late consolation goal bringing the final score to 5-3.

Over all it was a solid performance by the team. Our passing game, that was missing against Now Tv, was back. Our defence also had a very solid performance, Memorable mention must go to Kristian and also to Max who is improving every week. Jack and Rex also held their ground with some great team work.

Lastly our goalie Julian, had some fantastic saves to keep us in the game. In particular with the score of 3-2, the Warriors had a break away. After a very good deke, and an open net, Julian came from nowhere to slide his pad in the way and prevent the Warriors from tying the game.

Second loss of the season

On Sunday we had our second game against Now Tv. This resulted in our second loss of the season.
The game was played at 6:45 in the morning and the whole team looked tired due to the early start. This resulted in a very scrappy game with us failing to get into good scoring positions.

Our passing game , which has been the strongest part of our game, was not at the same level as the previous game, so we could not control the game and the outcome of the game.

The first period saw us go down 0-1 with very few shots from our forwards. Half way through the second period a well timed pass by C to Moses created a good rebound opportunity which Nolan jumped on and converted to make the score 1-1.

The scrappy game continued in the third period with few opportunities being created by both sides. That was until the the last 3 minutes when Now Tv scored the winning goal making it 2-1.

Despite the loss, the team is still looking good and I'm sure that they will rebound back and get back on track with the next game.
