Top of the table

Another week and another convincing win. After four rounds and three victories the team is now top of the table. We still a lot of games ahead of us so we need keep focused and continue to improve in the areas that coach Stuart is highlighting.

The game against MECO started off very well, with Nicholas scoring a scrambling goal on the first play of the game to make it 1-0. The team kept the pressure keeping MECO in their defensive zone. Within minutes an Assist by Rex allowed Moses to increase our score to 2-0.

In the second period, we started getting penalties called against us. Some of the calls were marginal, but due to us playing a more physical game, it is an expected  consequence. The two penalties in the second period we were smartly killed off by our penalty killing line. Soon after the second penalty, Moses had a breakaway and increased our lead to make the score 3-0.

Meco tried very hard to get on the score sheet, but our four defence men, Kristian, Peter, Rex and Jack together with our goalie Julian managed to stop them every time. One of our clearing plays lead to one of the nicest team goals we have scored this year.

Kristian skated the puck up the right side and then passed it to Nicholas who was on our blue line against the boards. Nicholas passed it to C, who took it into MECO's defensive zone and passed it to Moses who was breaking down the left side, drawing the goalie and the defence men with him. Instead of shooting from a tight angle, he passed it back to C for an open net tap in...great team play and great vision from both Moses and C.

With the game firmly in our control and a comfortable lead of 4-0, our defensive line had small lapse in concentration allowing one of MECO's forward to do a wrap around move and score their only goal of the game.

Overall we have a solid game. Julian had 18 saves from 19 shots. Jack also had a very solid performance on defence. C got three assists and one goal for a 4 point game. With four penalty kills out of four, everything is moving in the right direction....GO BAIRD DBEES!

Another convincing win

This weeks game was by far our best game of the season. From the start of the game, the players looked comfortable on the ice. The team controlled the pace of the game by moving the puck around and controlling possession.

Halfway through the first period, Nicholas picked up a loose rebound and scored the first goal of the game to make the score 1-0. Unfortunately a few minutes later, the team lost sight of the puck during a scramble in front of our goalie, allowing the Warriors to score a goal, making the score 1-1. With 2 minutes left in the first period, the Warriors got a penalty and  C regained the lead for us with a power play goal, closing the period 2-1.

During the second period we got a penalty but still managed to control the the game by producing our first penalty kill of the game. Despite a few close attempts we were not able to improve our score and finished the period with the same score of 2-1.

During the 3rd period our passing game started to take its effect on the Warriors, forcing them to move around the ice a lot more and making them fall out of position.
In one of our offensive plays we scored one of our best goals this season. C received a great pass from Wilson leaving him wide open on the left side. C took it to the net and when in shooting position, slid it to the right side, thus beating the goalie and the fast approaching defensemen, to set up Moses for an easy open net tap in. 3-1 Baird Dbees!

With 3 minutes left in the third period and after killing off another penalty, Nicholas sealed the game with a very nice shot over the blocker of their goalie to make the final score 4-1

Julian our goalie had a very solid performance with 20 saves.
