Congratulation to the Baird Dbees Pwe B team for getting to the finals in the PWE B division. Under the leadership of Stuart and Mark, the team had a fantastic tournament. In our pool games , we defeated Gold club 5-2. Against Beijing Little Wolves, we went down 0-2 in the first few minutes of the first period to fight back to a 2-3 lead. With about 1:30 to go, the Little Wolves scored to force a draw.
Our next game against Singapore brought Julian our Goalie his first shutout of the tournament and with a goal by Moses and one from the blue line by Kristian, gave us the final score of 2-0.
The next game was the semifinal against the Tanjing Devils. Tanjing had done really well in their pool by scoring 18 goals in 3 games and were dominating their opponents. Well...that was until they crossed our paths. Coach Stuart produced a fantastic result with his controlled game play. Wilson brilliantly managed to isolate their top scorer and frustrated him to a point of him getting 3 penalties and getting expelled from the game. While Wilson was working on their #23 the rest of the team systematically pulled the Tanjing defense apart and scored 7 goal. A brilliant hatrick by Elvis and another shutout by Julian got us to the finals with a 7-0 scoreline.
In the finals, we had to play against the Beijing Little Wolves, the team we almost beat in the pool.
The game started at 12h30 am with all of the players feeling the early morning effect. Once again we went down 2-0 in the first few minutes and then managed to pull back one goal to make it 2-1. The score remained deadlocked for the rest of the game with some close calls from both sides. Unfortunately with 2 minutes left in the 3rd period, the Little Wolves managed to score 2 quick goals to make the score 4-2.
Even though we lost once again in the finals, the players and parents thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we all come out smiling with increased confidence for the next season.
