The DBees are a non-profit community based ice hockey team. We are committed to the development of youth ice hockey in Hong Kong. Our members not only come from Discovery Bay but throughout Hong Kong and the program is available for all skill levels, ages 5 and up.
Our 2017-2018 season has now officially ended. In the upcoming 2018-2019 season, we will have a U10 Elite program in coordination with the Tigers hockey organization. The Dbees coaching staff will lead the program with support from the Tigers organization. The program will consist of two hours of ice each Saturday for U10 Elite training or split into two groups depending on the registration of our existing members or non U10 new members. In the past, our younger players with basic skills practiced from 7:15 am to 8:30 am and the U10 plus older players with advanced skills practiced from 8:00 am to 9:15 am. There was 30 minutes of shared ice. The practices are at Elements Ice Rink in Kowloon. The decision on the exact format is pending until all the registration is completed, hopefully by the end of June.
The Elite U10 training will involve all aspects of the game, but in particular, team drills, strategy and systems will be introduced to the players. For our non U10 player group, practice sessions concentrate on skating leading to developing all aspects of the game under a well-organized training guided by Hockey Canada and International training formats. Player development on and off the ice are a core part of the program. Our aim is for the players to enjoy the game and feel good about their development. All players should register via our “Contact Us” button at the bottom of this page or contact Claudia Wong, the Dbees General Manager on firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost of the program is yet to be decided but as an example, if there is 120 minutes of ice time per week for 28 sessions, then the cost is estimated around HK$12,000 per player assuming 30 players in the total program. If we have a split session, 75 minutes with 40 players, then the cost would be around HK$9000 per player for the 28 sessions. These are estimates only but are consistent with our past pricing policy.
In the past our PWE Baird Dbees team has made it into the finals of the Hong Kong City League a number of times, which is a great testament to the level of our coaching staff and players. A fair number of our players also play for various teams in the Hong Kong City League. In addition, numerous players have played for the Hong Kong Selects in international tournaments including a team that represented Hong Kong in the 2012-13 and 2014-15 Bell Capital Cup in Ottawa, coached by Stuart Winchester from the DBees. Players have also participated in the Quebec Peewee International Tournament in 2014 and 2015.
In the 2016-2017 season, the Club sponsored a team in the City League u15 division and also participated in the 2016-17 Kamloops International Bantam Tournament in British Columbia . We were the first Asian team to ever participate in this prestigious tournament that will be celebrated its 50th anniversary this past year. At the end of the hockey season we typically enter teams into the Hong Kong 5’ s Tournament. This is an International Tournament held at Mega Ice with teams participating from all over Asia. The tournament for the 2019 year will likely be held in the last week in April.
